Constance Bay NW

Birdhouse repeater in an oak tree.

Located in the northwestern corner of the community of Constance bay, near the mouth of Buckham's Bay.

Originally this thing was roof mounted, but it was not high enough, so I used a drone to get a string right up to the top of the tree on my front lawn. It hangs from a paracord right at the top, about 75' above ground level.

Designed to look similar to a birdhouse, it is constructed using cedar shingles for the main body, with two opposing solar panels (6 watts each) which make the roof. Inside, all of the electronics are housed in an old screw jar, which is secured using zip ties through holes in the cedar shingles. The solar panels feed a constant current charge board which charges a 3.6v 21.6Wh NiCd sub-c battery pack, which powers a 5v power supply feeding the RAK 1W radio (WisBlock RAK3401 + RAK13302 1W LoRa transceiver module). Coming out of the bottom is a DIYMall 19.5cm 5dBi omni-directional antenna.
