West Carleton, ON Repeaters in West Carleton, Ottawa (Ontario) Constance Bay NW Birdhouse repeater in an oak tree.  Located in the northwestern corner of the community of Constance bay, near the mouth of Buckham's Bay. https://yow.meshmapper.net/?repeater=08D3C7%2C45.50505%2C-76.11158&preset=all Originally this thing was roof mounted, but it was not high enough, so I used a drone to get a string right up to the top of the tree on my front lawn. It hangs from a paracord, about 75' above ground level. Designed to look similar to a birdhouse, it is constructed using cedar shingles for the main body, with two opposing solar panels (6 watts each) which make the roof. Inside, all of the electronics are housed in an old screw jar, which is secured using zip ties through holes in the cedar shingles. The solar panels feed a constant current charge board which charges a 3.6v 21.6Wh NiCd sub-c battery pack, which powers a 5v power supply feeding the RAK 1W radio (WisBlock RAK3401 + RAK13302 1W LoRa transceiver module). Coming out of the bottom is a DIYMall 19.5cm 5dBi omni-directional antenna. Operated by Mike Tunstall, username "rustinmyeye" on the Greater Ottawa Mesh Radio Enthusiasts Matrix/Discord bridge. Although it does work, it remains quite unreliable, and will need to be relocated again (its been moved around a fair bit).  This repeater is built using an off the shelf solar panel/battery pack combo designed for trail cams. Inside, there is enough room for the RAK 4631 radio, and an N-type connector for a Slinkdsco "alfa clone" dipole antenna. It hangs from a tree using some paracord and a repurposed hook as the hanging eye. Located on the western edge of Gatineau Park, very close to the settlement of Moss Mine, QC. It is at the top of a rocky escarpment in a little pine tree. Estimated elevation is 210m. https://yow.meshmapper.net/?repeater=10E402%2C45.58155%2C-76.24377&preset=all This is a similar design to the repeater, Constance Bay NW, except the main body is made of a wooden box instead of shingles. The roof is made up of two 5 watt solar panels. Inside, the RAK 4631 radio and battery all fit neatly inside a pill bottle. The battery pack is made from two recycled heated sock battery cells (13 watt hours combined). The RAK WisBlock baseboard handles solar charging and battery management. Coming out of the bottom is a DIYMall 19.5cm 5dBi omni-directional antenna. Operated by Mike Tunstall, username "rustinmyeye" on the Greater Ottawa Mesh Radio Enthusiasts Matrix/Discord bridge.
